I am a singer!
I don’t like labels. Yes, it makes a person easier to judge or put in a box, to understand a person. But really, labels need not define us. You are welcome to try to put me in a box but that box would be so convoluted and complex that it might be easier not to bother.
I do label myself as a singer, however, not because that is all I am or can explain everything about me but because song is how I experience the world. Some people experience the world through art, or literature, or science or any number of other things. I will be the person singing away, in the grocery store, along with the radio, or perhaps I will just start singing a song based on a word just spoken. I make up goofy songs but don’t consider myself a song-writer. I prefer to tell stories already told, to bring life to beautiful lyrics and music written by people more eloquent and talented than I.
